The last couple of months have been a blur, sometimes flying by, sometimes not. Here are some of the things we & our team did during quarantine:

Organized Like Nobody’s Business

This …Item/Prop………….had us thinking one word: GOALS! We rethought closets, cabinets, drawers, and pretty much anything else within eyesight.

Helped Our Community

Although we weren’t allowed to visit most clients in their homes, we did offer virtual design services. In June, we somewhat contributed to together Rising to help underserved communities.

Spent Time in Nature

It was important to get outdoors when possible. And when we weren’t able to, never has it hit home more the need to incorporate green and natural elements in our living spaces.

Practiced Self-Care

We spent time nurturing our soul by feasting our eyes on being grateful for what we do have. A candle, a good book, a soak in a bubble bath; we made sure to take a little me-time and reflect.

Prepared to Reopen

And now we can! We’re taking precautions as outlined by the authorities. We will sanitize our hands before and after we visit your home, and will wear masks the entire time. We’re just excited to be able to see you again face-to-face.

Make Work Separate from Play

Dedicated workspaces offer less distraction and allows you to keep your work like and home life separate. Ideally, a space with a door you can close works well, but in the absence of that consider setting up a small workstation that is out of the range of vision of where you spend time relaxing. Your office might only be a 30 second commute away from home, but that doesn’t mean you have to blend them 24/7.

Go Ergo

Ergonomic, that is. Studies show productivity rises with good posture. When working at a computer, your elbows should be at right angles and your computer screen should be roughly at eye level so your body is properly aligned. You don’t have to have fancy ergonomic chairs or office supplies—be mindful of posture and follow the above and you’ll have a properly-aligned, productive work day!

You Know We Love Light

As designers, we talk a lot about light, and it’s true even when it comes to productivity and workspace. Why, you ask? Because natural light cuts down on eye strain and fatigue. Plus, natural light boosts vitamin D, which kicks in endorphins. So, keep those curtains open, and use lamp light on cloudy days.

Mean and Green

Plants and flowers are a designer’s dream, and turns out they have health benefits with regard to being productive, too. Studies show nature and greenery keep workers happier and productive.

Keeping it Clean

It’s no surprise an organized workspace will keep you humming along. Most of us have an abundance of mental clutter, keeping your home office tidy can help you feel less overwhelmed. Perhaps schedule a specific day of the week to clean your workspace, or spend a little time at the end of each day to organize your desk. Make sure you have plenty of storage options, too, for all those office supplies.

You can turn even the tiniest of balconies into an enchanting garden. Use a variety of potted plants and planter boxes on the floor as well as in hanging pots, and utilise every inch of available space to turn your balcony into a green outdoor oasis. Be careful to place plants that need sunshine on the outer periphery. Try to use an interesting mix of flowering plans, greens and succulents to create layers and add interest. After all your hard work of doing up your garden, don’t forget to water them regularly and to take care of them well.

Creating A Reading Nook In Your Balcony

A comfy chair and a small side table (or ledge if you don’t have enough space for a table), can turn your balcony into your most favourite spot in the house. You can enjoy the views, curl up with your cuppa, read, write, meditate or do your own thing. Don’t forget a warm throw to keep you comfortable if you doze off while reading.

Space For A Siesta

If space permits on your balcony, a hammock would be just what your balcony needs. Enjoy your afternoon snooze in the fresh breeze! It’s also a lovely idea to hang up a swing seat where you can sit to enjoy the view.

Vertical Garden

Short on space? A vertical garden could be just the right thing to make your area look green. Add shelves or a grill where you can hang small potted plants. You can consider a simple drip watering system to water the plants so that the wall does not get wet. Remember, you could choose to grow some herbs which you can use in your cooking. Try fertilising your plants with kitchen compost; organic is the way to go.

Create A Lawn

Ever thought of installing a lawn on your balcony? While a real lawn would have to be planned for in the initial stages of your building, it’s never too late to get the look of a pretty garden. You can go for a synthetic lawn that looks almost as natural as the real thing but can be maintained with minimum care.
